Winter Conditions - Thursday, February 5
🦫 The Groundhog Has Escaped and the Havoc Continues! ❄️
🚌Despite our best efforts, the groundhog is still on the loose and winter conditions remain a challenge. Due to unsafe neighborhood roads and side streets that prevent buses from traveling safely, Millington Municipal Schools will be closed on Thursday, February 5.
🦺This decision is not made lightly. We want our students back in school as soon as possible; however, the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. We have included some pictures of bus routes to show how treacherous and unsafe bus travel would be.
All Central Office and 12 month employees will need to report to work on a modified schedule from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
This closure marks Day 9, and we have officially exhausted all built in inclement weather days. We are working closely with the Commissioner of Education at the state level to ensure our next steps align with their guidance. Adding days to the school calendar would be an absolute last resort and is not currently planned. Any calendar changes would require approval from the Tennessee Department of Education before being shared publicly. We will be sure to keep everyone informed once decisions are final and approved.
A decision regarding Friday will be made at approximately the same time of day as previous weather related decisions and will be communicated as soon as it is finalized. Stay safe and stay warm. 💛🖤
