Mathematics
MMSD’s math curriculum, McGraw-Hill Reveal Math, follows the Tennessee Mathematics Standards, which are designed to build a strong foundation in mathematical understanding and problem-solving skills. The major concepts taught across K-5 focus on conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application of mathematical principles.
Counting & Cardinality (K only)
- Understanding numbers and counting sequences
- Recognizing quantities and comparing numbers
Operations & Algebraic Thinking (K-5)
- Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division concepts
- Understanding and applying properties of operations
- Solving word problems and understanding patterns
Number & Operations in Base Ten (K-5)
- Understanding place value and multi-digit numbers
- Fluency with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Extending place value understanding to decimals (5th grade)
Number & Operations - Fractions (3-5)
- Understanding fractions as numbers and part-whole relationships
- Comparing, adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions
- Developing an understanding of decimal fractions
Measurement & Data (K-5)
- Understanding length, weight, capacity, and time
- Interpreting and representing data in graphs and charts
- Understanding area, perimeter, and volume (upper elementary)
Geometry (K-5)
- Identifying and describing shapes
- Understanding attributes of two- and three-dimensional shapes
- Partitioning shapes into equal shares (fractions in geometry)

- Problem-solving and reasoning
- Constructing arguments and communicating mathematically
- Making sense of mathematical structures and patterns
