Bus Safety Update

Bus Safety Update
This is the image for the news article titled Bus Safety UpdateDear Parents,
Over the past few weeks the behavior of some students riding the bus does not meet expectations. Students are very loud, moving from one seat to another, blocking the aisle, and not following the instructions of the driver. This is a safety concern that must be addressed.

Please read and discuss the attached Transportation Rules with your child. You do not have to sign and return the form as you have already done so through the online registration process. This is simply for you to review with your child and express to him/her how critically important it is to follow the established bus rules.

The school bus is an extension of school activity; therefore, students shall conduct themselves on the bus in a manner consistent with the established standards for safety and classroom behavior. Drivers and school personnel have been asked to report all students not adhering to the bus rules and there will be consequences for reported misbehaviors. The district is implementing a "three strikes" discipline procedure in which students will lose riding privileges once the third strike (disciplinary write up) is received.
The safe transport of students to and from school is our number one priority. MMSD Transportation Department does not want to see a single person injured due to an accident. Together, we can teach students to follow the established rules, thus allowing the bus drivers to focus on completing a safe path.

For any bus safety questions, you can review policy 6.308 (Bus Safety and Conduct) at the MMSD website www.millingtonschools.org. On the site click Board, MMSD Board Policy, then Students, or you can call MMSD Transportation Department at 873-5680.
