Do I Need a Flu Shot?

The classic symptoms of flu are chills, fever, headache, muscular aches, loss of appetite and fatigue. Sometimes it’s hard to distinguish the flu from a common cold.

Lifesigns can provide you with a flu (Quadrivalent) vaccination along with your annual physical - just ask while making your appointment. There is no cost to you since it is covered as part of your preventive benefit in your health plan.

Remember, the influenza vaccination must be repeated each year just before the start of the flu
season,  which is right now. It is also recommended that people age 65 and older and those with diabetes, respiratory, circulatory and chronic disease get a flu shot every year because they are at significant risk for complications from the flu virus.

So, take care, have a physical exam and get your flu shot too. Call the clinic to set up your visit at (901) 685-5520.

Physicians Corner:

Does Breakfast Everyday Keep the Weight Gain Away?

We've all been there before... you're in a hurry to get out the door in the morning and you forget to eat breakfast before you go. Pretty soon, it's almost lunch time and you realize you haven't eaten anything yet today. There is a high probability that when it is time to eat your lunch, you will end up being ravenous and overeating.

Recent studies have shown that people who had breakfast regularly tend to lose more weight than people who skip breakfast. Even more interesting is the fact that those whose largest meal of the day was breakfast experiences a greater decrease in their body mass index in contrast to those that made lunch or dinner their biggest meal.

Thanksgiving is a time for gathering together with loved ones... and stuffing ourselves to the brim with delicious food!

There are many Thanksgiving dinner staples like casseroles and sweets that can certainly pack in the excess calories. We know they are terribly unhealthy, but it just wouldn't seem like Thanksgiving without them, would it?

Luckily there are many delicious and healthy recipes that can be substituted for less healthy recipes that still pack in all of the flavor without packing in the calories.

Try replacing your standard mashed potatoes with some oven roasted potatoes, or even mashed cauliflower! Give your green bean casserole a healthy makeover with a delicious skillet green bean recipe. For more great Thanksgiving recipe swaps click here... YUM!

Is someone else cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year? You can avoid the excess calories by loading up your plate with fresh vegetables with some  protein packed turkey.
